I got home at about 7.30 this evening afer a hard day at work and as I passed the open door to Spanky’s apartment I could see him inside, so I stopped to say hello. Spanky is the manager here, in case I haven’t mentioned him before. Anyway, as I approached the door I spotted the most enormous crab I’ve ever seen creeping furtively into the room ahead of me. It was huge – easily a foot across – and dark grey with the most menacing-looking pair of pincers you can imagine.
Calmly pointing it out to Spanky and edging slowly away at the same time, I watched with concerned amusement as he grabbed a broom (with only a faint shriek), and started shooing the beast back out of his room. It seemed a little reluctant, and clung onto the sofa for a while, but slowly it lost ground as man regained his rule over nature.
It took a lot of poking, shoving, sweeping, and leaping nimbly aside before we got the thing round the pool, past the breakfast area, and over the edge into the canal where it sank without a trace. Apparently it was a land crab so I expressed concern that perhaps it couldn’t swim, but Spanky didn’t seem to care.
After all that excitement it seems rather mundane to report that my autopilot is now fully installed and working. The next thing is to start fitting all the new instruments, which are all sitting in their boxes in my living room at the moment. It’s going to be fun trying to get all the wiring in place as it means dismantling half of the interior of the boat to hide wires behind ceiling panels and things, but it’s all worth doing.
Time to eat now and it’s Tuesday so that means it’s rice and beans for supper again – yay 🙂
