Weekend rules apply even when on extended holiday, so I didn’t do much today. I could get used to this non-working lark! About the only thing I did was to go down to the boat, theoretically to get the sails off and get it ready for the masts coming down on Monday, but in the end I couldn’t be bothered because the sun was shining so I just stood behind the wheel and pretended to be driving it around.
I ran the engine for a while which was fun as it made it feel like I was about to go somewhere, but ran into a slight problem when the stop button didn’t do anything, no matter how hard I pressed it. I turned off the ignition which you’re not supposed to do as it blows up the alternator or something but it still didn’t stop. Turning off the fuel didn’t work either, so I got a bit worried that I might have to sit there and wait for the diesel tank to run dry, but that would take several days and I wanted to get to the beach at some stage today.
Eventually after rummaging around in the engine room I found a little lever which, when pushed, had the desired effect and the engine finally died. It looked as though it was a fuel shut-off valve controlled by a solenoid with a wire leading from it to nowhere, and should probably be connected to the stop button. I’ve got a feeling I’m going to find lots of interesting puzzles like this on Odyssey!
The rest of the day was spent on the beach which was great. Nice and sunny, gentle breeze to keep the heat to a bearable level, and not too many people. I had planned to go out tonight but in the general mood of weekend laziness I couldn’t be bothered and just stayed in watching the telly. Zzzzzzzz!
